NIKE PEGASUS PLUS 2 REVIEW

By Lionel Fracture Translated from French · Read the original

It can do it all. After several versions of the shoe formerly known as the Pegasus Turbo, the Nike Pegasus Plus 2 is probably the most accomplished pair in the Pegasus family in quite a while. And we felt it straight away: from the very first session, the sensations were a genuinely pleasant surprise. Here's why.

Tester: Lionel Fracture
Test mileage: close to 100 km
Used for: easy runs, threshold and interval sessions on the road

Looks

The Pegasus Plus 2 draws a line under the Turbo's design for good and clearly moves closer to the lines of the regular Peg. It's an upgraded Peg, with a visible Air Zoom unit that no longer sits under the heel, like on the legendary Air Max 1, but in the forefoot, like on the Alphafly (our Alphafly 4 review here) or, for those who remember it, the Air Zoom Tempo NEXT%, which never really found its audience. Either way, the look stays understated, nothing flashy. In this white colourway, it's an easy pair to wear and pretty clean.

Comfort

Nothing to report, in the best possible way. The Pegasus Plus 2 feels great on the foot. The upper is comfortable, the cushioning soft and the foot well held. Not much more to say, except that once it's on, all you want to do is go and run in it.

Performance

With that much comfort, you might think it's a bit pedestrian, only good for Sunday runs. But since its predecessors were built for tempo work, or even faster sessions, we let its marketing positioning influence us and lengthened our stride. Another pleasant surprise: it's a comfortable shoe, but one that delivers on faster sessions too, with intervals, threshold sessions or fairly long, hard reps.

The ZoomX foam midsole and the forefoot Air unit give excellent energy return. It's surely not all down to the shoe, but every session we ran in this Pegasus Plus 2 went well and felt pretty good. Case in point: this progressive 3 × 6'.

Our verdict on the Nike Pegasus Plus 2

A versatile shoe and another good call from Nike, which, after the Vomero 18 and Vomero Plus, has once again released a pair that deserves a spot in your rotation. For €30 more than a Pegasus 42, you get a far more accomplished shoe. For us, it's the best version yet of a line, from Pegasus Turbo to Pegasus Plus, that is starting to have some history. It covers everything, from a gentle easy run to angrier intervals. At €170, it's a reasonable, safe investment.
