This page explains what personal data the Jolie Foulée website processes, why, for how long, and how to exercise your rights.

Data we collect

Newsletter

When you sign up for the newsletter, we collect your email address and the language of the page you signed up from (French or English), so we can write to you in that language. Legal basis: your consent.

Sign-up uses double opt-in: you first receive a confirmation email, and you are only subscribed once you click the link it contains. You can unsubscribe at any time using the link in every email.

Addresses are managed by Brevo (Sendinblue SAS, France), our processor for sending emails.

Audience measurement

To know which articles are read, the website counts the views of each article, without cookies and without identifying its readers. When an article opens, your browser only sends the article’s identifier and where you came from: another page of the site, a direct visit, or the name of the referring site (for example instagram.com). The server only records a counter per article, per source and per day: no IP address, no identifier, no information about your device. Your browser’s “user-agent” header is only used to filter out bots and is not part of this counter; it may appear in the host’s technical logs (see “Hosting”).

So that an article reopened in the same tab is not counted twice, your browser keeps the list of recently viewed articles in its session storage (sessionStorage). It is never sent and is cleared when the tab is closed.

Form security

To prevent abuse, the sign-up form accepts at most 5 requests per minute from the same IP address and for the same email address. This counter is kept by the rate-limiting service of Cloudflare, our host; it is not stored in the website’s data, but may appear in the host’s technical logs (see “Hosting”). Hosting

Like any host, Cloudflare, Inc. (United States) processes your IP address to deliver the website’s pages; the website’s technical logs may keep a record of it [To be checked: content and retention of the logs]. Images are served by Sanity AS, which receives your IP address for that purpose [To be checked]. [To be checked: safeguards for transfers outside the European Union.]

Cookies and third-party content

The website sets no cookie for its readers: only the preview reserved for the editorial team uses a technical cookie.

Some articles embed third-party content — YouTube, Vimeo or Dailymotion videos, Instagram or X posts, Deezer, SoundCloud, Apple Music or Mixcloud music, Strava activities, Google Maps maps — which can set cookies. They only load with your consent: by accepting in the cookie banner, or by clicking “Load content” for a single item.

Your choice is stored in your browser (localStorage, not a cookie) and is not sent to the website. It is kept for 6 months, after which the banner asks again. You can change it at any time with the “Manage cookies” link at the bottom of the About page and of the legal pages.

Your rights

Under the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) and the French Data Protection Act, you have the right to access, rectify, erase and port your data and to object to its processing, as well as the right to withdraw your consent at any time.
