SYNC: THE NEW YORK MARATHON, WALKING EDITION

SYNC: THE NEW YORK MARATHON ROUTE, ON FOOT
Sébastien Lorsbach doesn't like running. So for his new photo project, he covered the New York Marathon route on foot. The result is called Sync, and it's on show in Manhattan during race week.
Sébastien Lorsbach is, for better or for worse, our friend and longtime photographer and filmmaker. He's also a man who views running with a healthy dose of suspicion. We did manage to get him to run Marseille-Cassis last year, but he clearly decided not to repeat the experience over 42 kilometres.
So for his new project, he took things the other way round. With Julien Caldarone and our friends at Studio La Madone, he followed the New York Marathon route through all five boroughs in the days leading up to the race. On foot, walking, taking his time. Exactly what the 50,000 runners won't have the luxury of doing on race day.
Rather than shooting the race, they focused on the people who bring these neighbourhoods to life every day. A chess player, a messenger, a skater, a runner, an artist: five practices, five settings, five ways of moving through the city. Proof that movement isn't only measured in minutes per kilometre.
Backed by Salomon, the project takes the form of an exhibition in New York during marathon week. If you're lucky enough to be there, to race or to cheer, don't miss it. And if you're not, don't worry: we'll do our best to bring you back as many images as possible.
